Heading out to California for a summer road trip was always something I wanted to do with my boys. The boys never been out west, and it’s been way too long since my last California visit, so it seemed like the perfect time.
We chose Northern California and Nevada in August and it was magical. It’s one of those trips that has stayed with me and I think about it all the time. There’s so much to see and do in Northern California, and I found myself loving it even more this time around.
Our trip began in San Francisco, which was exciting and fun. We hiked in and outside the city, biked over the Golden Gate Bridge, explored The Mission, went to all the popular tourist sites (except Alcatraz) and neighborhoods and ate really good food. We stayed at a kid-friendly hotel in Cow Hollow, which was a great location and near good restaurants, shops and by the waterfront. We also rented a car, which was easy and got us to see most of the city in a short time. After San Francisco, we drove south on the coast to Pescadero and stayed at Costanoa, a lodge and campsite, where we rented mountain bikes and chilled at the beach.
Here’s a visual guide to San Francisco and the southern coast near and around of the town of Pescadero.
