Happy January! This is the time of year when I like to reflect on the year before—what worked, what I loved and what can go away. So far, it's been a few slow few weeks and I'm totally okay with it. January is always my least favorite month. I thought it would be a good time to share some of the beauty and fashion items that stood out for me in 2023.
Actually, this was kind of fun to look back and see what stood out this past year. One fashion purchase was a splurge and I have worn it nonstop in 2023. I do think waiting and investing in some timeless pieces are always worth it. Other items came across my desk from new beauty brands, and some I purchased on my own. Either way, they have been hits in 2023 and will be worn and used often in 2024.
Here are some of my beauty and fashion favorites from 2023:
YSE Exfoliating Pads — Maybe it's age, but my skin has been quite strange in 2023. Some days it's glowy and clear and other days I have more redness and little breakouts. I have to be careful what I use on my face, but I also want the products in my rotation to be effective. The brand YSE, a new skincare line from Molly Sims, sent over a few products to try. So far, I'm loving so many of the products, but one that really has stood out is the exfoliating pads. I use them two to three times a week after I cleanse and they never irritate my skin while leaving it smooth and glowy.
Bottega Veneta Small Casette Camera Bag — Let me start by saying, I'm not a big logo designer bag kind of girl. I gravitate more towards minimalist styles with or without hardware. I wanted a bag for daytime city strolls as well as evenings out—it had to also hold the essentials: keys, lipgloss, wallet and phone. When I was on a holiday trip to New York City, I went into the Bottega Veneta store and founds this bag. It was not the one I had in mind, but there was something about it that was timeless and fresh. I thought about it for weeks and then finally took the plunge. It comes in a few colors, but I went with classic black and it's so good!
The Best Pencil — One of my go-to everyday beauty products for 2023 was this Jones Road Beauty eyeliner. The color is so good—it's the perfect bronzy brown with subtle flecks to enhance hazel eyes—and I love the staying power and easy application.
Apotheke Candles — When it comes to candles, I'm usually a Diptyque candle girl, but I stumbled upon Apotheke candles here at a new store in Providence and now I'm hooked. The sea salt grapefruit candle is my favorite (so fresh and clean), but I also love the charred fig and charcoal scents for winter.
ASKK NY Wide Leg Pants — When I was in Vermont in the early fall, I found these great khaki wide leg pants. I bought them and have been wearing them in so many ways ever since. I'm saving up for the white ones this summer—they're so good, too!
Gold Heart Necklace — I've always loved west coast-based Thatch Jewelry and was excited to collaborate with them this past year. They make well-made stylish everyday pieces at great price points. I wear this heart necklace often as well as two other pieces from them such as this chain link and these earrings. They are timeless and go with everything.
Re/Done T-Shirts — Good basics are essential and I always love finding a good t-shirt. They are essential in buidling a capsule wardrobe. I found these crewnecks from Shopbop in the fall and scooped them up in two colors. I wear a size medium and I love the way they look with jeans and simple jewelry.
On Cloudrunner Sneakers — I am super picky when it comes to running sneakers. I've had foot issues from wearing the wrong type of sneakers so I take my running sneakers seriously. I branched out from my usual Brooks running shoes to the On Cloudrunner and they are the most comfortable sneakers while still giving my arch support. They have made running so much better for me.
