The air is getting crisp and the leaves have turned to all these beautiful hues of yellow, orange and pinkish-red here in Rhode Island. Just when I thought I was missing the days of summer, I realize fall is pretty magical, too. I recently went through a bin of old sweaters to see how they looked and if I needed to replenish some of them. A few are cashmere lived in pieces that I’ve had for years and still wear and love, and some are affordable options that may need a little refresh.
Last year, I lived in sweaters for both day and night. For me, there’s nothing like a cozy sweater to keep me warm and comfortable when the temperatures drop. I pair them with pretty skirts for events and even wear them for date night with my husband. I’m including some recent affordable sweaters that I scooped up from H&M and Zara and ones that I have my eye on for the fall and winter season.
What I bought:
I purchased a few affordable sweaters over the past few weeks because I’m on a budget and wanted something to wear without breaking the bank. I have both Zara and H&M locally, so I do like to pop in there to see what I can find. Believe it or not, H&M has some of my favorite sweaters. They make great cuts and some of their sweaters use higher quality wool and alpaca. I bought this basic caramel hued sweater and have worn it multiple times to the pumpkin patch to an evening work event paired with statement earrings. It’s oversized, which I love, and looks more high-end than the $40 price tag. This one is made of a higher quality wool. One of my kids doesn’t love the feel of this sweater. I put on a thin nude camisole underneath so I don’t get itchy, but I have had no problems with it and pretty happy with the purchase.
Another H&M find, which is in the picture above, is this black and white checked sweater that is also a bit oversize, but perfect for running to school pick ups, meetings for work and lounging on the couch on a cold day. At first, I purchased a medium and it felt too boxy and and then went back to get the small. A girl in the dressing room told me she loved it and I had to get it so I obciously went and bought the smaller size. I am pretty sure it just sold out online, but you can probably still find it in some local stores. This one is a similar option.
I was on the hunt for a great cardigan that I could ease into fall in and found one at Zara that looked way more expensive. I love the beige-pink hue and button details. It looks great with a pair of denim and I like to wear a light or dark camisole underneath. My color is currently sold out, but it comes in a light blue hue that I am loving, too.
What I want:
Some color on a drab cold day will make me feel cheerful, which is why I am leaning towards this multi-colored cardigan which also has a cute fit. I’d throw it on over a white t-shirt and pair with some jeans and sneakers for a casual look.
I have my eye on an ivory sweater with fringe detail from a designer I love, but it’s way above my budget. This one could pass for it and would look just as good with a great pair of your favorite denim.
I’m still loving everything animal print and always add a piece to my closet every season. I love a leopard cashmere sweater in a deeper navy color that pairs with anything and looks great for the office to a cozy date night.
You can’t go wrong with a black cashmere sweater and this one is priced right and could work well with silk skirts that are everywhere this season and even be dressed up at night with black leather pants.
When it comes to holiday time, I know I am going to stare at my closet and wish I had something comfortable and warm, but also a little more special to wear. This sweater would fit the bill. Love the metallic color and the subtle puff sleeves.
More of a splurge in terms of price, but I have my eye on this sweater. First, the color is great and second I love the print, which feels a little more fresh than the standard fair isle. The fit looks pretty stylish, too.
