Spring has sprung in Rhode Island and I'm so happy about it! Last week, I took a little mid-week trip with a friend to Newport, which was brimming in daffodils giving me all the spring vibes. It was the perfect spring day with mild temperatures and the sun shining.
I am not sure if I paid attention as much in years past, but daffodils in the springtime are pretty iconic here in Rhode Island, especially in and around Newport. Last year, I was too late to see the daffodils in Newport and by the second week of May they were fading away. This time around, they were freshly bloomed and vibrant, swaying in the coastal breeze.
During the month of April, the city of Newport ushers in spring with their annual Daffodil Days Festival and you can find a total of 1,200,000 of the narcissus flowers around town. They also have a few fun events such as a car parade, boat cruises and walking tours that lets you see the different spots of the daffodils in bloom.
I especially love the field of them along the Cliff Walk in front of Salve Regina University. It's definitely a highlight and should not be missed. However, the pretty spring blooms can be found all over town including across from Easton's Beach, Dunlap-Wheeler Park, Ballard Park and a few more spots (seven total). Even some shops have brought the daffodil theme into their storefront windows. It's cheerful and uplifting, signs of brighter days ahead.
If you are short on time, I recommend heading over to Easton's Beach (you can park along the sea wall) and enter the Cliff Walk, one of my favorite places to take in the beautiful coastal views and get in a good workout. You can even bring your pet along (leash required). The Cliff Walk is one of Newport's most popular spots so plan accordingly. If you have more time, head to the other side of Easton's Beach for more daffodil views.
