I’ve always been one to take care of my brows. I have done it all—waxing, tweezing, threading—and learned all the tricks to take care of them. Over the years, I’ve leaned into a fuller natural brow, which me feel a bit more together, even if I am only working from home in the dining room. I’ve spent years getting my brows professionally done, but over the past few years I don’t go as often to keep them more lush and full.
My brows are in no way perfect, but I’ve learned to embrace them, and with a few tricks I can make them look way better than they really are. I’m not into penciled-in arches or even Microblading (I’ve seen some bad ones), but I think if you struggle with sparse brows there’s so much you can do to help them. I get a professional brow grooming about two or three times a year (obviously things are different now with Covid) and try to take care of them by using the right products and never pluck too much.
Here are my must-have products and tips for getting fuller brows:
Disposable Spoolie Brush: These eyebrow spoolie brushes were one of my pandemic Amazon buys and now I love to use them when I began to shape my brow or blend a product. They’re great for brushing up the brows and helping them look fuller.
Invest in a Good Brow Pencil: One of my favorite brow pencils of all time is Brow Wiz by Anastasia in the color taupe. It’s the perfect color match for me and adds the right amount of definition and fullness to brows without being too oily. It has more of a subtle powder finish, and I love how small the tip is on this pencil to help create that feathery natural brow that I strive for. I use this pencil in light, small strokes all over my brow to fill in any sparse spots and help fill in the tail, which never seems to grow in. It also has a brush on one side for blending. Overall, this pencil helps make a beautiful natural brow that does not look like it’s filled in at all.
Add Volume and Color with a Brow Gel: I started using a brow gel a few years ago and never looked back. It’s always in my makeup bag and I use it when I want to add more fullness and color fast. I rotate between Glossier Boy Brow (in blonde) and Benefit Gimme Brow (in 1 and 3). Both coat the hairs in tiny microfibers and create the illusion of a fuller brow. Plus, the color is buildable and it never leaves brows feeling stiff or heavy. I find that if you play around with the brush in different directions (brushing up and in opposite directions of hair growth) you can achieve a great lush brow.
Add in Hairs with a Brow Pen: I purchased Glossier Brow Flick because I wanted to try it and see if a pen was better for me than a pencil. It wasn’t easy to get to used and takes a little bit of playing around and some talent, but it’s a great product to give you a feathery effect without spending a ton of money on expensive salon treatments. I use this specifically to fill in sparse areas and to fake hairs where I need them.
Use a Growth Serum — I’ve tried a few growth serums and I do think they make your brows look healthier and more lush. I should be better about using them, because I feel that consistency is key with these type of products. I use this one by my brow girl Brows by Jane containing horsetail and CBD extract to stimulate damaged follicles. I apply the oil to my brows and even on the skin around it to help stimulate growth. After a few weeks of using, I notice my brows look more lush and healthy. I’ve also used this serum by Revitalash, which contains peptides and vitamins to help stimulate healthy hair follicles.
Don’t touch them! I know this is so hard, but if you want a fuller brow put the tweezer down. I only try to tweeze below the brow line if I must. Leave the shaping to a brow professional.
