Clean beauty is all the rage these days and I am trying to make more of a conscious effort to use more of them in my beauty routine. I’ve been questioning what exactly is in my soap, deodorant, face wash and lip gloss, and it scares me that companies have been using ingredients that don’t belong in there (synthetic fragrances, chemical sunscreens, parabens, phalates).
Now more than ever, I want to incorporate clean products with a high-level of efficacy into my daily routine. I’m not saying I’m going totally green just yet, but I’m definitely more aware and trying to minimize harmful and toxic ingredients I put on my body. In addition, I am making better choices for my family.
Clean beauty has come a long way. There are amazing clean products out now that offer high-quality ingredients without sacrificing results. The ones below have exceeded my expectations and help keep my skin and hair in check and looking healthy.
Here are my current clean beauty favorites:
Cleanser – PureHaven Refresh Cleanser is my favorite right now. I actually LOVE this entire line and it’s all made right here in Rhode Island. The face cleanser is a liquid gel formula, which smells so nice and feels great on the skin, containing aloe, cucumber, pomegranate, rose flower and bearberry leaf extract. I love how it’s hydrating, but also cleans any dirt and grime while never stripping or drying out skin.
Serums — I’m a big fan of Marie Veronique skincare line, which offers efficacious products for a range of skincare concerns. I love their Soothing B3 Serum to help boost hydration, brighten and calm skin and the vitamin C + E + Ferulic Serum for antioxidant protection. For some extra hydration and smoothness, I can’t stop using PureHaven’s Hyaluronic Acid, which I apply to clean skin either under or over a daily moisturizer. This moisture-boosting serum contains 3 percent hyaluronic acid along with aloe, hibiscus and calendula, so it plumps and calms the skin instantly.
Body Wash — I enjoy having a nice body wash on hand in the shower in addition to traditional bar soap. Ursa Major body wash is something new I recently tried and love how it lathers nicely and smells like fresh citrus and ginger. A little goes a long way on this concentrated sulfate-free formula and it makes my shower experience so much better. I aslo like the no-frills Dr. Bronners multi-purpose liquid soap and it’s even better when used with a loofah or exfoliating gloves. It contains natural oils—coconut, olive and hemp—and lavendar extract so its simple, but effective.
Hair Products — One line that consistently delivers and contains clean plant-derived ingredients is Rahua. I love their shampoos and conditioners for making my hair feel soft, color looking vibrant and never feeling oily or greasy, plus they feel a bit luxurious. Their Legendary Amazon oil is great for when my hair needs some extra smoothness and moisture and will be a summer savior when at the pool or beach.
Makeup — I’m not going to lie and say I have tried a ton of clean makeup because I haven’t, but I hope over the next few months I get to try some new brands, especially their color (lip, cheek) products. One brand that I’ve been using for a few years is RMS and I love their luminizer to achieve that lit-from-within glow. It gives this nice pretty sheen and looks great under the brow, on top of cheekbones and whereever you need an extra glow. I also just started using their “Un” cover up and love how smooth it looks and feels under my eyes. It blends easily and gives nice coverage to areas around my nose, lips and wherever I need some color correction. The Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint is a good multipurpose product to keep in your purse or at your desk, containing natural pigments and nourishing ingredients. The color is really nice and it blends easily, plus I love how it gives a subtle pop of color to the lips in a pinch.
Lip balm/Universal Salve — Beauty Fix Balm by BeautyChef was sent to me for a recent beauty TV segment and I got hooked on this multipurpose salve, which contains fermented coconut to boost hydration as well as peptides and nourishing oils. I apply it mainly to my lips, but you can use it under the eyes, to cuticles or wherever you need some soothing moisture.
