A few weeks ago, I had a wonderful picnic experience on the grounds of The Breakers, one of Newport's grandest and most beautiful mansions. Specialized picnics have been popping up the past year and have been an outlet for so many during the pandemic. I've seen picnics at the beach or a park, but never at one of the mansions in Newport, so I was excited to experience one in a special setting.
The Breakers, which was once the summer home to the Vanderbilt family, was the perfect spot with its vast rolling lawn and Italian Renaissance style architecture that overlooks the sea. The mansion glowed in the sunshine and the grounds were so lush and beautiful (I highly recommend walking around in the warmer months). There was a coastal breeze coming off the ocean and the flowers were all in the bloom. The day started with a toast of a crisp glass of Anchor & Hope white wine followed by a delicious cheese plate from Formaggio To You. It truly felt so special and was an experience I'll never forget. A few people stopped by to tell us how lovely the picnic looked.
You can throw this kind of picnic on your own with some takeout and beverages or you can elevate it with a picnic company, who will do most of the work for you. Here, we went with RI Picnic Co., you can check them out on IG here. Christina, the owner, is so lovely to work with and she has a great eye for creating what kind of vibe you want. My friend Kayla and I were invited to throw this picnic and we wanted it to be simple and sophisticated, letting the backdrop of the mansion really shine. Christina at RI Picnic Co., delivered just that. She set up an intimate picnic on The Breakers lawn, injecting lovely lace details, beachy accents, candlesticks, fresh flowers, comfortable pillows and beautiful glassware to elevate the whole look. We sipped on some glasses of wine and indulged in a delicious cheese plate from Formaggio To You. You can take a peek at the day below:
RI Picnic Co. will create any kind of picnic you want no matter the occasion. You pick the venue and they set everything up so it's no hassle. There are three packages, all of which are based on two people for two hours. Prices start at $165, each additional guest is $25 and each additional hour is $50. They team up with Formaggio To You for beautiful charcuterie and cheese boards, and Petite Pastries for delicious cakes and treats.
